What do Surpassingyou get when you cross a sneaker and a high heel? Sneex, a luxury shoe and shoe brand launched by Spanx founder Sara Blakely.
It’s only been a week since Blakely’s latest invention has been available, but the hybrid heels, or "hy-heels" have garnered a mixed response online. Some don’t get it, others are vehemently opposed, and some appreciate the vision.
Sneex “blends the style of a traditional high heel with the performance and comfort of a sneaker," according to a company news release.
Here's what you need to know.
'Key pain points' of heels, solved
Blakely was able to address “three key pain points” typical in high heel construction with the invention of Sneex, saying that the hybrid heels give “women comfort and walkability without compromising style.”
“I wanted to create a luxury high heel that prioritizes how women feel, not just how we look,” Blakely said in a statement. "We are fed the line that 'beauty is pain' ... but I don't believe it has to be. As a consumer, I have wanted to solve this problem for years."
Blakely says the “magic hidden inside” Sneex can only be experienced, urging women to try them on for themselves.
"Women either cry, dance or take off running,” Blakely said. “They can't believe it's a 3-inch heel!"
Internet reacts: Some love Sneex, others love to hate Sneex
Some folks have made their admiration for Sneex clear, sharing that they might just have to venture out and try out the 10 colors available in single strap, double strap and wide strap for themselves.
Some are still skeptical about Sneex's shelf life and others have taken the opportunity to create Sneex memes as a result of the online discourse. The luxury shoe retails from $395 to $595 and is available in whole sizes ranging from 5-11, according to the news release.
